Day 94 - Strawberry Fair

We’ve been putting on a fundraising concert at church today in aid of two fabulous charities – Friends of PICU and Christian Aid.  The first half of the concert was set in a village with all the performers on stage as if they were sitting around on the village green and then taking it in turns to perform folk songs, or read poems, ending with singing round the piano at the village pub. The second half was a more traditional concert style featuring British musical theatre songs from before 1945.  I sang a couple of Ivor Novello songs which I loved.

Day 93 - The ironing fairy

The ironing fairy has visited! Another bonus of having my lovely mum here is that she always likes to do my ironing.  These days I barely have time to iron so if I can get away with not ironing something, I generally will (which applies to most of my clothes and hubby’s clothes) although will try and make sure the girls’ clothes look nice.  Summer dresses are always fun as they tend to get quite creased in the wash but are fiddly to iron – thank you Mum for doing such a big pile of them and making them look nice.

Day 92 - Having Nanny here

I have two very happy little girls at the moment (and a happy mummy too!) as Nanny has come to stay for a few days.  My mum is wonderful with my little ones – she loves to spend time with them, make things (dollies out of muslins is one of my favourites!) and play lots of silly games.  Plus it means I can get some time out and have a nap if I need to catch up on sleep or get on with various household jobs whilst the girls are being kept wonderfully entertained or just spend time with my mum.

Day 91 - Hair today...

I have had long hair down to my waist for quite a while now (I felt like Rapunzel when it was loose!) and decided that I needed a haircut.  I realised that if I was brave and got it cut short, I could donate my long hair to Little Princess Trust, a charity which helps provide real hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.  Having got a few people to sponsor me meant that there was no backing out and this afternoon I had my plait chopped off and my hair cut into a short bob.  And I love it!

Day 90 - First tooth!

Sophie’s first tooth has made its appearance – the bottom right tooth.  She is four months earlier than Jessica was at cutting her first tooth and has started with a different tooth to Jessica too as the bottom left was the first to appear when Jessica was ten months old.  Sophie has been a little more unsettled although has mostly been her usual happy self – it was watching her using a breadstick a bit like a teething ring that made me check and notice that a tooth had broken through the gum.  No more letting her gnaw on my fingers now!

Day 89 - Getting stuck

Had a lovely morning out shopping with my babies until we got trapped in the lift in Debenhams for 25 minutes.  The alarm didn’t seem to be working and I had no phone reception – not sure if the intercom response I got after ten minutes was due to my frantic pounding on the lift doors or managing to briefly get through to 999 on my phone.  Thankfully my girls weren’t too upset by it (mummy was a bit shaken – just as well I’m not claustrophobic) and having lunch and a much needed cup of tea in the cafĂ© afterwards helped.
