Day 90 - First tooth!

Sophie’s first tooth has made its appearance – the bottom right tooth.  She is four months earlier than Jessica was at cutting her first tooth and has started with a different tooth to Jessica too as the bottom left was the first to appear when Jessica was ten months old.  Sophie has been a little more unsettled although has mostly been her usual happy self – it was watching her using a breadstick a bit like a teething ring that made me check and notice that a tooth had broken through the gum.  No more letting her gnaw on my fingers now!

Day 88 - Sophie sits

We reached a little milestone at church this morning. I was sitting on the floor playing with Jessica and Sophie when I realised that Sophie wasn't leaning against me to support herself with sitting. Sure enough, as I moved backwards away from her, she carried on happily sitting there playing with a toy and showing me that she can now sit unsupported for a short while. Clever girl! So lovely to watch her grow and develop although it feels like time is whizzing by and there are many moments when I would like it to slow down just a little!

Day 74 - Sophie at six months

It’s Sophie’s half-birthday today.  I can’t believe she is six months old already – time really has flown by!  Being six months old means that it is time to start weaning and so she had her first taste of solid food this afternoon – yummy parsnip purée.  She seemed to enjoy her first taste of food (although she did pull some funny faces whilst I was feeding her) and enjoyed putting her hands in the bowl and smearing it everywhere.  I’d forgotten just how messy this stage is but at least some of it got eaten and seemed to go down well.

Day 58 - Baby Hartbeeps

Sophie and I had a lovely morning together attending a Baby Hartbeeps session at our local children’s centre.  Sophie loved the music, lights and bubbles and the different puppets used and it was so lovely to have some one-to-one time with her.  Jessica went to Hartbeeps several times as a baby and loved it but Sophie hasn’t had much opportunity to go to sessions aimed solely at babies as I tend to take her to the toddler sessions that Jessica attends.  It was lovely to be able to focus on my little one whilst Jessica enjoyed a morning with Grandma.

Day 31 - Changing cots

My baby girl is growing up so fast. She has pretty much outgrown her Moses basket now and so we have spent today putting her cot together. It will feel very strange not to have my baby sleeping next to me tonight although I am glad that she will at least still be sleeping in our room for a while longer. She looks so tiny in the cot though which eases the feeling that she is growing up too quickly - sometimes I wish I could slow time down a little bit. Hopefully she will settle well in her new bed.

Day 15 - Four months

Four months.  Time really has flown – can it really be so long since I first saw Sophie’s face and first held her in my arms?  And yet, it seems as though she has always been here, that I have always known and loved her.  Four months.  That not-so-tiny baby, scrunched up and sleeping against my breast is now cooing and smiling and rolling over.  Grabbing at toys with her little hands and staring intently at them.  Giving her sister big grins (and then grabbing her hair!).  Getting bigger every day, growing fast, too fast.  Can we slow down time please?
